Hosted by Newt and Callista Gingrich, Rediscovering God in America II: Our Heritage explores the role of religion in early America and the belief that “our Creator” is the source of our liberty, prosperity, and survival as an exceptional nation. From the first permanent English settlement at Jamestown in 1607, through the American Revolution, to the end of the Civil War in 1865, this film tells the story of the deep faith that motivated and sustained our great leaders, and dramatically presents our nation’s belief in religious freedom.

“It is an honor for Rediscovering God in America II: Our Heritage to win at the Garden State Film Festival this year,” said Callista Gingrich, President of Gingrich Productions. “Newt and I, along with our Producer Dave Bossie and Director Kevin Knoblock, are proud of this film and its message, and we thank the Festival for this wonderful distinction.”
“The aspect of the film that won me over is that the documentary is a historical piece, not partisan or revisionist,” said Nick Falcone, a member of the Festival’s Board of Directors. “In speaking with audience members after the screening, people were unanimous that this film should be part of every school curriculum.”

Gingrich Productions is a performance and production company featuring the work of Newt and Callista Gingrich. Based in Washington, D.C., Gingrich Productions provides talent for audio, video, and photographic productions. Together, Newt and Callista host and produce historical and public policy documentaries, write books, record audio books and voiceovers, produce photographic essays, and make television and radio appearances.

Celine: Through the Eyes of the World, an Expanded DVD Edition of the Acclaimed Documentary & Taking Chances World Tour: The Concert, a New Live DVD/CD, Available Tuesday, May 4

NEW YORK, March 22 /PRNewswire/ — Celine: Through the Eyes of the World, a home edition of the acclaimed feature film, newly expanded for its DVD and Blu-ray Disc release, and Taking Chances World Tour: The Concert, a DVD/CD of live performances from Celine’s record-breaking world tour, will be released on Tuesday, May 4.

(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20100322/NY74021 )

Lensed during the Canadian superstar’s 2008-2009 Taking Chances World Tour (the second highest-grossing ever for a solo artist), Celine: Through the Eyes of the World opens a window into the real life, both on-stage and off, of the best-selling female recording artist of all time.

Director Stephane Laporte and team enjoyed unprecedented access to the decade’s top performer as she played concerts in five continents, 25 countries and 93 cities, selling more than three million tickets during her first major tour in nine years.

“This was an amazing world tour, but there’s a lot more than just concert footage on this film,” said Celine. “I let the cameras follow me everywhere. There are a lot of ups and downs, and it’s very personal… It’s definitely the most intimate journey that I’ve ever shared with my fans.”

Clocking in at three hours, the home version of Celine: Through the Eyes of the World includes an additional hour’s worth of footage not seen in the film’s limited theatrical run in February 2010.

Working with choreographer/director Jamie King, Celine Dion created a multi-media state-of-the-art production for the two-hour concerts on her monumental Taking Chances World Tour, the eleventh of her career. Running from February 2008 through February 2009, featuring both Anglophone and Francophone setlists, Celine’s Taking Chances Tour broke attendance and box office records at venues around the world.

Taking Chances World Tour: The Concert, a DVD/CD souvenir combination set chronicling the event, will be available.

A special limited edition deluxe two-DVD set — featuring both Celine: Through the Eyes of the World and Taking Chances World Tour: The Concert and a 52 page booklet and fold-out souvenir postcards — will be available direct-to-consumer through Celinedionstore.com.

The movie “… does more than highlight her performances during her last world tour, it also allows fans rare glimpses of her offstage life. The documentary shows Dion as a goofy jokester, a doting mother, a tender wife, a wide-eyed tourist, a devoted daughter and more. The cameras tag along for intimate moments the superstar is happy to share with fans.” – MSNBC “…whether frolicking with admirers in Johannesburg or accepting France’s Legion of Honor metal in Paris, wowing throngs or greeting a sick child backstage, she [Celine] emerges as a paragon of greatness and goodness… Celine’s film tour de force.” – USA Today”Celine is the James Brown of her generation — the hardest working woman in show business.” – Globe & Mail “The film succeeds because it lets us in on Celine the person as much as Celine the performer.” – Boston Herald”… you can’t help but be impressed by this fascinating portrait of a superstar trying very hard to keep her feet on earth while her career keeps soaring ever upward.” – The Toronto Star”Celine: Through the Eyes of the World a must-see… Dion’s goal was for her world to remain human, real and authentic. Mission accomplished.” – Le Journal de Montreal”it also shows the behind the scenes action that an ordinary ticket holder would never get to see […] fascinating.” – The Sunday Telegraph

“A Celine we rarely see.” – La Presse”You have the best seat in the house…” Chicago Tribune

Having sold more than 200 million albums around the world, Celine Dion is one of the most immediately recognized, widely respected and successful performers in pop music history. During her spectacular career Celine has been honored with over 1000 awards. She is a five time Grammy Award winner, including Album of the Year and Best Pop Album for Falling Into You (1996); and Record of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for “My Heart Will Go On” (1998). Her recordings have won two Academy Awards®: Best Original Song in 1992 for the title song of Beauty and the Beast (with Peabo Bryson), and Best Original Song in 1998 for “My Heart Will Go On” (From Titanic). She has earned seven American Music Awards, 20 Juno Awards (Canada) and an astonishing 40 Felix Awards (Quebec). In 2004, Celine received the Diamond award at the World Music Awards recognizing her status as the best-selling female artist of all time. In 2007 she was honored with the Legend Award at World Music Awards in recognition of her global success and outstanding contribution to the music industry.

Bruno Chatelin Talks to Hope Obioma Opara of EKOIFF

Hope Obioma Opara
Bruno Chatelin, a co founder of filmfestivals.com (launched in 1995) and was in charge of the launch of over 250 films during his tenure as Marketing Director and Managing Director for Columbia TriStar Films and Twentieth Century FOX. He interviewed Mr. Hope Obioma Opara, the President/Co-founder of Eko International Film Festival (EKOIFF)

Bruno Chatelin: Hope, you are the president of EKO international Film Festival in Lagos, Nigeria, what is your background

I am the Managing Director/CEO of Flonnal Limited and Supple Communications Limited, with an MBA in finance, an associate member of Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) and the Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM).

I have been in publishing for over a decade and started publishing Supple magazine in August 2008 and the magazine has become the most advanced Nigerian magazine with a special focus on motion pictures and film festivals (www.supplemagazine.org). I am also the publisher of the book “Scientists Discover Hell: As Astronauts Find Heaven” available on Amazon.com

As the President/Co-Founder of Eko International Film Festival, I am committed to promoting the sustainable development and advancement of the motion picture arts and science in Nigeria and the rest of the world. I want Nigerian filmmakers to improve the quality of their movies to world class standards.

I have been to international film festivals such the Festival of 3 Continents, the Cannes Film Festival and already invited and accredited by the International Film Festival Rotterdam and I want us to have a similar world class film festival in Lagos , Nigeria .

BC:What does Eko means?

Eko is the traditional Edo Benin name for Lagos and it means war-camp and similar to the word Oko which means farmland.
For more details. See the Origin of Eko (Lagos) on http://www.edo-nation.net/eko.htm

BC: Can you please tell us about the origins of the project: who came with the idea first, how and why?

Eko International Film Festival is the idea and concept of my co-founder and Festival Director Ekenyerewngozi Michael Chima who created it in August and posted it on fest21.com the first social network for the film and festival professionals, with a festival directory of 4000 festivals.

www. fest 21.com/en/ festival / eko _ international _ film _ festival.

BC: What team have you formed around this project and what is their background?

The Organizing Committee presently is a team of five members: Hope Obioma Opara – The President/Co-founder, Ekenyerengozi Michael Chima – The Founder/Festival Director, Barr. Biola Ladipo – The Legal Adviser, Wale Adenuga, Chike Ibekwe and Annabell Mbock, an actress from Nigeria.

BC: Tell our friends filmmakers what the festival mission is, which film are you looking for, what can they expect from their participation?

Eko International Film Festival is an annual film festival to be held in the mega city of Lagos state in South West Nigeria, from July 7-12. The mission is to promote the appreciation of local and international films in Lagos and use the film festival to attract filmmakers to exotic locations of Nigeria and boost tourism.
We are expecting films in four main categories; documentaries, drama, fiction and horror. We may add musicals and animation later.

BC: What is the situation of the film industry in Nigeria ?

The Nigerian film Industry began as big screen industry with films shot only celluloid and the first Nigerian film Palaver was shot in 1904. But the film industry collapsed in the late 1980s due to the economic recession and the popularity of VHS cassettes prompted Nigerian producers to start making home videos of typical Nigerian drama, horror and comedy from the early 1990s. The home videos in the local dialects of Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa became very popular among the majority of Nigerians who are the poor lower class and middle class families. The popularity made many Igbo business men to venture into mass importation of video cassettes and mass production of home videos which made Nigeria to become the largest movie making industry in Africa and the second largest in the world after India with an annual production of over 800 movies in the video-format and popularly called Nollywood after Bollywood and Hollywood. The popularity of home videos distracted millions of Nigerians from the cinemas from the 1990s to the early 21 st century. But there is a revival of the cinema culture with the establishment of new public viewing centres in all the cities and towns in Nigeria such as the popular Silverbird Cinemas, and ambitious Nigerian filmmakers are now making films for cinemas.

BC: Who is supporting the festival, state, city, private companies and sponsors?

Eko International Film Festival is being organized by Supple Communications Limited and is seeking the cooperation and support of local and international sponsors. We have attracted the interest of some Nigerian banks and we expect to close deals with the prospective sponsors early next year.

BC: Is EKO IFF going to be fun?

EKO IFF is going to be great fun for the filmmakers and the lovers of films in Nigeria and the thousands of film aficionados we are expecting.

‘1040’ World Premiere in Los Angeles Friday, March 12, 2010

‘1040’ World Premiere in Los Angeles Friday, March 12, 2010

LOS ANGELES, March 3 /PRNewswire/ — Feature film documentary 1040, produced by Adventures.TV in conjunction with Arowana Films, is scheduled to premiere at the 2010 City of the Angels Film Festival (CAFF) on Friday, March 12th. The film will be screened at The Directors Guild of America (DGA) in Hollywood at 7:00 PM, followed by a Q&A with the film’s cast and crew and the Official 1040 After Party.

1040 looks at Christianity from an unconventional lens as it explores its influence in Asia through the eyes of both Christians and non-Christians alike. Renowned minister and artist Jaeson Ma tours across China, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Indonesia filming the dramatic changes taking place through interviews with top Asian celebrities, artists, entrepreneurs and Christian ministers.

Asian artists like Van Ness Wu, Jin the MC, and Sean from “Jinusean” are a few of the celebrity figures who provide insight into the role of Christianity in the entertainment industry and how it is impacting popular culture and changing the lives of artists, celebrities and fans. Hip hop legend and minister MC Hammer, who is also featured in this film, stated, “The world is looking at Asia at this historical moment. With its economic rise, there is also a powerful spiritual movement that is spreading and transforming entire cultures.”

1040 refers to the area known as the “10/40 Window”, a region between 10 degrees and 40 degrees north latitude that spans from North Africa to East Asia, where Christianity is currently spreading and reaching areas that in the past were predominantly Buddhist or Muslim.

“With interviews and never-before-heard stories, 1040 sheds light on the incredible changes taking in Asia today,” stated Ma. “The phenomenon it documents is profoundly significant to people of all backgrounds.”

Various community organizations such as Asian Professional Exchange (APEX) and Privy will be at the world premiere to show their support for 1040. The Official 1040 After Party will be at Opera Crimson in Hollywood.

Tickets for the premiere can be purchased online at www.caff.eventbrite.com for $10.00.

Antichrist: Lars von Trier’s Kafkaesque Nightmare

Antichrist scene-from-lars-von-trier-001

I read Knud Romer’s riveting interview with Lars von Trier on his
gothic melodrama Antichrist in The Film # 66/Cannes issue.

I see the Antichrist more as an expressionist art film, even if it
provokes widespread controversy among the public, only the literati
and aficionados of the genre would be convinced to appreciate the
psychoanalytic themes of Trier’s Kafkaesque nightmare.

Day Angelina Jolie Took My Breath Away is the cover story of the latest edition of the Supple magazine print edition. You can read it online with a selection of other special features on the 62nd Cannes Film Festival.

Day Angelina Jolie Took My Breath Away

By Hope Obioma Opara

She has the heart of a lioness, the compassion of a mother and the peace of a dove.

I came all the way from Nigeria to France to attend the 62nd Cannes Film Festival. It was my first time. I was one of over 5, 000 journalists crawling all over the place with pens, notepads, cameras, laptops, cell phones and whatever tool was necessary to record and report the best news and highlights of the prestigious film festival.
I’m overwhelmed by the awesome atmosphere of the most celebrated film festival in the world – with a parade of the most glamorous film stars and other celebrities on the red carpet at the Palais des Festivals. Angelina Jolie is on my wishlist and I’m sniffing for any news on her.

Brad Pitt arrived earlier on the French Riviera and Jolie came later on Tuesday evening, straight from the trial of Congolese warlord Thomas Lubanga at The Hague, arraigned for engaging child soldiers. Jolie’s passion for children is legendary as she has demonstrated by adopting children from different continents and going to Africa to care for children in refugee camps. I came to Cannes to see if I could interview her and seeing her with my very eyes would be overwhelming.

ANGIE JOLIE 2

My excitement reached fever-pitch on Wednesday May 20, when the whole place went agog over the arrival of the screen goddess, Angelina Jolie, and her beau, Brad Pitt. The paparazzi pack thronged the Grand Theatre Lumiere — venue of the premiere of Pitt’s Inglourious Bastards — like a swarm of bees and I could not even come near the edge of the red carpet, because the paparazzi from America and Europe were already overcrowding the borders. It was the most dramatic and colourful moment as Pitt and Angelina walked arm in arm with so much gaiety and passion like a scene from an opera. Pitt played the dashing gentleman in a black suit, white shirt and black bow-tie and Jolie’s dress was wow! She was a spectacular sight in a tea rose Versace Atelier draped gown. She was absolutely gorgeous in the backless chiffon gown with a plunging neckline and a slit showing us all her smooth and spotless right leg, thigh and all. Her diamond earrings and awesome dress were not what kept me gazing at her, but her unique tattoos. The most interesting were the ones on her upper arm showing some numbers which those who knew her well said were indicating the geographical coordinates (longitudes and latitudes) from the locations where her children first entered her life. She has the heart of a lioness, the compassion of a mother and the peace of a dove. These are the qualities making Angelina Jolie a unique personality, besides being the most powerful woman in the world today.
