LG MOBILE PHONES PROVES STYLISH TECHNOLOGY IS ALWAYS ‘IN FASHION’ WITH EXCLUSIVE LG FASHION TOUCH EVENT

LG Fashion Touch hosted by Victoria Beckham and Eva Longoria Parker draws the spotlight on LG Lotus Elite and LG Rumor Touch with a star-studded event

43628-hi-2445

West Hollywood, CA – May 25, 2010 /PRNewswire/ — LG Electronics MobileComm U.S.A, Inc. (LG Mobile Phones) and well-known fashion enthusiasts Victoria Beckham and Eva Longoria Parker teamed up for an exclusive “LG Fashion Touch,” event to celebrate personal style and LG’s handsets, LG Lotus Elite and LG Rumor Touch. Embracing each woman’s personal style, the event brought Victoria’s bold and edgy style to life with LG Lotus Elite while Eva’s more classic taste radiated through LG Rumor Touch. Available to Sprint customers nationwide, both handsets encourage users to flaunt their personal style through their mobile phones and feature distinctive front touchscreens as well as full QWERTY keypads.

Celebrities, stylists, industry professionals and fashion enthusiasts who embody the very essence of style arrived at the Soho House in West Hollywood, CA to walk the red carpet and attend the star-studded event. Those in attendance included Victoria Beckham, Eva Longoria Parker, Jessica Simpson, Ashlee Simpson, Vanessa Hudgens, Rachel Zoe, Anna Kendrick, January Jones, Gabrielle Union, Rashida Jones, Rosario Dawson, Kim Kardashian, Chloe Kardashian, and many more. Guests at the party received a hands-on demonstration of each handset and enjoyed an evening devoted to personal expression and stylish technology.

Associate Vice President of Consumer and Trade Marketing, Tim O’Brien, who attended the event, said, “LG Fashion Touch was the perfect example of how style and technology can come together to create something truly unique. We are honored to have partnered with Victoria Beckham and Eva Longoria Parker on this campaign. In tune with how technology enhances their lives, Victoria and Eva brought a key understanding of how a handset can be an extension of an individual’s personal style. Enriching LG’s fashion heritage, LG Lotus Elite and LG Rumor Touch allow consumers to seamlessly blend fashion with an innovative mobile device.”

Other elements of the partnership included a print and online campaign, series of MTV vignettes and a consumer promotion. Shot by fashion photographer, Ellen Von Unwerth, the print ads featured Eva and Victoria posing with their respective phones while donning fashions reflective of their personal styles. The series of MTV vignettes, produced and directed by documentarist Doug Keeve, depict Victoria and Eva with up and coming fashion designers, Yotam Solomon and Oday Shakar. The designers were tasked with creating clothing designs inspired by the idea of expressing personal style in a technological and socially-connected world. Revealed at the event, the designers’ pieces proved that style and functionality can always go hand-in-hand. LG also created a Fashion Touch Style Quiz to engage consumers on the LG Fashion Touch Facebook page. By taking the quiz, consumers could find out which phone and style suited them best and were entered into a sweepstakes for a chance to win tickets to the event.

LG Lotus Elite is a second generation handset to the widely popular messaging device, LG Lotus. LG Rumor Touch is the newest handset in a long line of QWERTY successes including LG Rumor and LG Rumor². Both are available exclusively through Sprint.

63rd cannes Film Festival

The 63rd Cannes Film Festival ended last night and Supple magazine is looking forward to the 64th edition in 2011.

The Cannes Film Festival is the world cup finals of the film world attracting thousands of filmmakers, lovers of movies and tourists to Cannes every May, but unlike last year Nigeria did not have a pavilion and only few Nigerian journalists were there. The Guardian, The Nation and Supple magazine were the major Nigerian news media.

Well, Cannes will always get better with over 25, 000 film professionals, over 5, 000 journalists and thousands of tourists thronging the French Riviera to watch the best movies in and out of competition and of course the popular Cannes market premieres with millions of other viewers watching on TV and Internet. As Thomas Sotinel, the Movies Section Editor of the prestigious Le Monde said, that Cannes Film festival is where you see the interpretation of global changes in the eyes of the film industry, attracting the gaze of the five continents. Filmmakers do not only tell our stories, but also capture history in the making.

Senegal and South Africa competed for the top prizes and one of the most moving and touching Films was Life, Above All, a movie on the stigma and trauma of AIDS in South Africa. Many of the viewers left the theatre in tears after seeing it. But the question is; where is Nigeria? We need to work harder to compete with the best in the film world. Nigeria has ambitious directors, daring producers, outstanding actors and actresses who can excel at every film festival in the world.

See you next May.

Apichatpong WEERASETHAKUL of Thailand Wins the 2010 Palme d’Or

Director Apichatpong Weerasethakul poses with his Palme d'Or 1

The 63rd Cannes Film Festival ended with the thai filmmaker, Apichatpong WEERASETHAKUL winning the Palme d’Or, the highest prize for his film “LUNG BOONMEE RALUEK CHAT (Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives)”.

If Thailand can go as high as winning the most coveted prize at the Cannes, then Nigeria can produce the films that can qualify for competition and win top prizes. What is the benefit of producing thousands of movies since 1992 to date and not a single Nollywood movie has even qualified for the Official Selection of the Cannes Film Festival? Nigerian filmmakers must step up to compete with the best in the world or go and dump their mediocre movies in the Atlantic Ocean before coming to the Côte d’Azur and get dazed and fazed by the outstanding filmmakers from all over the world.

Congratulations to all the worthy winners.

SYNOPSIS:

Suffering from acute kidney failure, Uncle Boonmee has chosen to spend his final days surrounded by his loved ones in the countryside. Surprisingly, the ghost of his deceased wife appears to care for him, and his long lost son returns home in a non-human form. Contemplating the reasons for his illness, Boonmee treks through the jungle with his family to a mysterious hilltop cave — the birthplace of his first life…

Lindsay Lohan’s Trip to 63rd Cannes Film Festival

    Lindsay Lohan

The first was the Chopard 150th Anniversary Party at the Palm Beach, Pal Palm Beach, Pointe Croisette on May 17 and another one last Friday night on the 21st. Lindsay was at the Cannes for the publicity of Inferno the film in which she has been cast as Linda Lovelace the 70s porn star star of Deep Throat. But she returned to the United State the following day Saturday to face a legal case after a Angeles judge issued an arrest warrant for Lindsay Lohan last Thursday, because she failed to appear for a court hearing on her 2007 drink-driving case. Her attorney Shawn Chapman Holley said she would have been at the hearing, but her passport was stolen in Cannes.

“The fact is she intended to be here today, she had a ticket to be here, her passport was stolen, she’s filled out a police report in Cannes and as far as I’m concerned she had a valid reason for not being here,” Holley said.

Lindsay had to pay a $100000 bail to avoid being jailed.

Grey Partners With Yoko Ono In Music Seminar At Cannes

Grey Partners With Yoko Ono In Music Seminar At Cannes

Multimedia Icon to Discuss Her Innovative Music and Art, Branding and the State of Music Today

    Yoko Ono

NEW YORK, May 21 /PRNewswire/ — Grey New York announced today that its fourth annual Music Seminar with Living Legends will feature Yoko Ono on Friday, June 25, at the Debussy. The 2010 Cannes event follows three years of high popularity for the Grey music seminar with legends Stevie Van Zandt in 2009, Tony Bennett in 2008, and John Legend and Donavan in 2007.

Yoko Ono is multimedia artist who constantly challenges the traditional boundaries of art, known for her groundbreaking conceptual and performance pieces, experimental films and music.

In Grey’s annual seminar on music and its place in marketing communications, Yoko Ono will discuss today’s music scene and the impact on brands and bands, her own adventurous music and performance art created over a high-profile lifetime, perhaps never as critically appreciated as it is today, and her extraordinary life with John Lennon and raising her musician son Sean Lennon.

Yoko will be interviewed by Tim Mellors, Worldwide Creative Director of Grey Group, and introduced by Josh Rabinowitz, Director of Music, Grey New York.

“Yoko Ono needs no introduction to anyone touched by the music scene for more than 40 years,” said Mellors, former President of the Cannes Festival and multiple Cannes Lion winner. “Her marriage to and influence on John Lennon is legendary. The famous ‘bed in’ in Amsterdam, and the interview from inside a bag were direct extensions of Yoko’s early art happenings in the Fluxus group. Her deep knowledge of the alternative music scene and people like John Cage, the founder of Fluxus, are seldom given the credit due for their influence on Lennon’s solo career.”

About music’s relevance to advertising, Josh Rabinowitz, who is also an adjunct professor at The New School said, “Advertising is a new form of the music label. The most popular song in America, as well as around the world, is as likely to come out of a brand’s advertising as it is from a record. It is a brave new world for musicians and Yoko Ono, who packs the room at 77 and won MOJO magazine’s 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award, has braved new frontiers over her entire life. She will no doubt provide a unique perspective on sustaining a brand both for musicians and marketers.”

Richard Gere is the Star Attraction at Aruba International Film Festival

    Richard Gere

Hollywood romantic actor Richard Gere starrer “Hachiko” and Duplass Brothers’ “Cyrus” To Bookend The Aruba International Film Festival As the Opening and Closing Night Films

Aruba – May 20, 2010 – Program details for the inaugural Aruba International Film Festival (AIFF), which takes place June 4-11, 2010, were announced today. The Festival will showcase 28 films from 18 different countries, featuring several international premieres and many Caribbean/South American premieres. The lineup was announced by AIFF Artistic Director Claudio Masenza along with Festival founders Giuseppe Ciocarrelli and Jonathan Vieira.

Films having their international premiere at the Festival include the Dutch drama “Amsterdam,” directed by Ivo van Hove; the Italian dark comedy “Questione di Cuore,” directed by Francesca Archibugi; the Susanna White directed English family comedy “Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang” starring Emma Thompson, Ralph Fiennes, Ewan McGregor, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Maggie Smith and Rhys Ifans; and the English horror/drama “Black Death” starring Sean Bean, diected by Christopher Smith.

    ARUBA

AIFF will open with the drama “Hachiko” starring Richard Gere, who will open the Festival as its official host. Commented Masenza, “The first year of a Festival is a double test: the director is testing the reactions of his audience, knowing that the audience is testing him. I believe that this program presents elements to please and interest everybody, balancing amusement with more engaging stories. I chose films coming from almost all of the Latin nations because the Aruba culture is very close to theirs. I also chose several American movies, mainly independent, and included a special ‘window’ on Italy, my home country, that could give an idea of the contemporary industry there.”

Masenza added, “My wish is to introduce the public attending the Festival to the films and the culture of a different European country every year. Often movies that are normally unable to be seen inspire young filmmakers and resonate in their imagination for years to come.”
